Gray cast iron contains graphite. Due to the low mechanical properties and excellent lubrication properties, gray cast iron's tensile strength is much lower than steel, and features an excellent wear resistance and shock absorption, making it easy to process. Thanks to all of those features, gray cast iron is often used in brake discs, brake drums, flywheels and other automotive part manufacturing, as well as in electrical machinery such as electrical housing, air conditioning compressor parts and the production of auto transmissions, cylinders, and machine tool guide rail parts.
When cutting grey cast iron, a PCBN insert must have a high PCBN content. The amount of PCBN in an insert made by PCBN for cutting gray cast iron is 90-95%, allowing it to quickly cut material, and ensure processed parts feature a high precision.
